Through the Livelihood Restoration Plan for the Salima Solar PV Project, JCM introduced the Youth Skills Programme to help young people from project-affected households build sustainable livelihoods beyond subsistence farming. Each affected household could nominate one young person, aged 16 to 40, to train in a practical, income-generating trade.

In total, 103 youth enrolled across five trades – driving, bricklaying, solar technology, carpentry and joinery, and tailoring and fashion design. Training was delivered with Kindle Vocational Centre and accredited by TEVETA, so graduates earn nationally recognised certificates. JCM provided protective equipment, tools and start-up kits, covered lunch and travel costs, and offered ongoing mentoring to help graduates move into employment or self-employment.
