60 MWAC / 72 MWDC
JCM Mbalmayo Solar Corporation s.a.r.l is developing a 60 MWAC / 72 MWAC, ground‐mounted solar PV project in the Nyong‐et‐So’o department of Cameroon’s Centre Region. The site is 174 hectares and is subject to a Declaration of Public Utility. The site is situated 7km south of the city of Mbalmayo and approximately 2km from the substation. Feasibility studies, including topography and grid connection, have been completed and approved.
While the Ministry of Energy shows strong support for the project, the majority of IPPs in the country face challenges due to the delayed extension of the concession on the distribution contract for ENEO. Due to this delay, ENEO has been slow to invest in the power sector and grid and take on additional PPA obligations. Despite this delay, JCM continues to work with the government on bridging a tariff gap in preparation of re-engaging once ENEO’s concession is extended.
ENEO released an expression of interest for the development and construction of two solar PV plants with capacities of 10MW and 15MW in northern Cameroon. While JCM was prequalified in the first round to compete in the tender, members of our qualified bidding consortium chose not to proceed with a full bid due to the security concerns of the northern territory and the proximity to Boko Haram militants. This tender shows a positive affirmation that ENEO is looking to diversify the energy mix.
