Salima Solar Inaugurated

16 November 2021

His Excellency President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera opens the Salima Solar Project

JCM Power is proud to announce that its 60MW AC (75.6MW DC) Salima Solar project in Malawi has reached commercial operations. The project is the first renewable IPP in Malawi and will provide an average of approximately 150,000 Mwh’s per year, or up to 20% of the power to the country for the next 20+ years.

The project welcomed His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, and other key stakeholders at an inauguration ceremony on November 16, 2021 to commemorate this important milestone. We were joined by our co-development partners @InfraCoAfrica and @FMO, who will remain long-term investors in the project alongside JCM Power.

The project will provide clean and affordable power to 1.6 million people and is aligned with COP26 objectives as it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 14,000 tons per annum, or 280,000 tons over the contracted life of the project.
