International Women’s Day: Celebrating Women

On March 08, 2022, International Women’s Day, our JPL and Hawa Projects in Pakistan became the first wind projects in the Jhimpir and Gharo Wind Region to recognize and celebrate the role of women in the rural Jhimpir area society.

An event was organized in our local primary school and 112 women from the surrounding communities of Hawa and JPL attended. Ms. Nazeer Qureshi and Ms. Maryam Majeedi, a prominent poet, author, social worker, and motivational speaker from the Thatta district attended the event as Chief Guest. The event was inaugurated by a cake-cutting ceremony followed by motivational speeches by Chief Guests. Both young and elderly women participated in the discussions and shared their aspirations to have a more positive and impactful role in the development and growth of their families and villages.

Women from the villages also showcased their handicrafts and the Chief Guest applauded their efforts and advised them to explore commercialization of their skillsets as this will increase their earnings and improve livelihood. Young girls danced to local music and sang songs demonstrating the role of rural women in the Sindh culture.

Recognizing and celebrating the women in our community is a first step towards women empowerment – a journey that JCM, together with our partners in Pakistan, look forward to progressing further.
