JCM operates over 200MW of high-quality wind and solar assets and delivered the first utility-scale grid connected solar plus energy storage project in Sub-Saharan Africa, located in Malawi. JCM intends to develop and execute a pipeline of wind, solar and energy storage projects in Asia and Africa.

JCM is seeking to hire a Manager Global Taxation, reporting to the Controller Financial Reporting & Taxation. The ideal candidate is a proactive, results-oriented, hands-on, and detail-oriented individual who will support the company’s strategies for growth and oversee JCM and its Affiliated companies’ taxation and related compliance records and matters pursuant to relevant taxation laws and stakeholder requirements. Also responsible for managing the company’s liaison with external consultants and taxation authorities in different jurisdictions. The position covers responsibility for entities in Pakistan as well as out of Pakistan in other parts of the globe. The ideal candidate will be based in Karachi (Global Office) with possible travel to the regions with JCM development projects.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Tax Compliance & Management

  • Ownership of global tax compliance of all the group entities and proper handling of all tax-related matters, including tax inquiries, disputes, and audits.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate submission of tax returns (both direct taxes and indirect taxes) by the due time as per the taxation framework of all the individual entities of the group.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment of direct and indirect taxes by the due time as per the taxation framework of all the individual entities of the group.
  • Maintaining good relations with tax consultants globally.
  • Ensure maintaining data in such a way that can be readily used to file tax returns (income tax / sales tax etc. as applicable) and can be submitted to various regulators in accordance with specific requirements if any.
  • Ensure decisions, transactions, and contracts entered are aligned with applicable tax laws in relevant jurisdictions in a cost effective manner.
  • Expertise of dealing with tax matters and handling day to day tax affairs with sound understanding of taxation laws of different jurisdictions, at a minimum of Pakistan.

Tax Advisory

  • Advise on tax implications of local and cross-border transactions, including analyzing the impact of tax treaties, withholding taxes, and transfer pricing.
  • Develop tax-efficient structures and strategies to utilize maximum available tax benefits under different tax jurisdictions relevant to nature and type of entities.
  • Provide strategic advisory on setting up or discontinuing business operations in various jurisdictions.

Management and Resolution of Disputes, inquiries and Audits

  • Preparation and submission of responses to relevant tax authorities to their inquiries in different tax jurisdictions, independently or with the support of consultants, as applicable.
  • Prepare and file appeals before relevant tax appellate forums in all global jurisdictions .
  • Represent companies during tax audits, inquiries, and appellate proceedings, preparing robust arguments and comprehensive responses
  • Conduct year-wise assessments and detailed reviews of tax orders, identifying areas for optimization or rectification.

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with internal finance, legal, and operational teams to ensure tax compliance and alignment with organizational strategies.
  • Maintain and nurture relationships with external consultants and advisors for specialized tax matters.
  • Monitor changes in global tax laws and ensure timely implementation of necessary updates.
  • Provide clear and accurate tax-related updates and recommendations to senior management and relevant stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Qualified CA (minimum 6 years), ACCA or advanced degree in taxation, business, or management required with 8 years or more post qualification, taxation experience, majority of which needs to be in industry
  • Expertise of dealing with tax matters and handling day to day tax affairs.
  • Experience of working in a global environment and multiple jurisdictions is preferred.
  • Ability to conduct research relating to compliance and taxation laws, treaties and global taxation framework,
  • Good communication skills.
  • Requires capability of problem-solving and decision-making in a cost-effective and innovative manner.
  • Exposure to deal with foreign stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented, strong leadership and management skills, savvy and up to date on tax and finance, laws and regulations.
