GOLOMOTI

The Golomoti Solar PV Project is a 20MW plant located in the Central Region of Malawi, approximately 47km from the Dedza District Centre and within Kachindamoto Traditional Authority and the Pitala Group Village. The plant sits on a 108-ha green field site approximately 100km southeast of Lilongwe.

The plant was developed by JCM and is owned by JCM Power and InfraCo Africa. The project includes a 28.5MWp solar array coupled with a 5MW/10MWh lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS). JCM acted as the EPC and construction took under 12 months, from site mobilisation in March 2021 to reaching commercial operations in March 2022. The Golomoti project was the first utility-scale battery energy storage project in sub-Saharan Africa!

KEY FACTS

PEOPLE

28 Full Time Employees at the end of 2024, with 32% being female.

COMMUNITY

We currently support several programs in the Pitala community including access to water, support to health services, access to education, capacity building, and support for sustainable agricultural practices. These programs support approximately 4,500 people.

ENVIRONMENT

Our well-considered and implemented Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) enabled us to understand the sensitivity of ancient Baobabs so that these trees could be incorporated into the design of the Project from an early stage, making them a positive feature of the project rather than causing them to be negatively impacted.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Through the embedding of a safety culture in the workplace, we have maintained a record of 0 fatalities and 0 reportable injuries since COD.
