HAWA

In May 2017, we launched our Asian platform through our acquisition of a 25% shareholding interest in the 50MW Hawa wind power project. The project achieved commercial operations on 15 March 2018. In 2020 JCM acquired JS Group’s remaining stake to become the 51% majority shareholder of the project.

The Hawa project is located in Jhimpir, approximately 136km from Karachi and consists of 29 wind turbine generators each with a rated output of 1.7MW.

9 Full Time Employees at the end of 2024, with 100% being Pakistan nationals. While our share of women in the workforce is low, we continue to prioritise women in employment opportunities, develop skills-focused programmes that target women, and provide our female employees with a voice and a safe space to engage in the workplace.

COMMUNITY

In 2023 we refurbished and opened the Jan Muhammad Khaskheli Primary School for the Hawa community. JCM’s contribution includes the full-time employment of a teacher, the provision of all necessary furniture, equipment and materials for the school and providing uniforms to the 40 enrolled students. This is in addition to our CSR initiatives which include healthcare (water and sanitation) and electricity.

ENVIRONMENT

In January 2024, the Global Carbon Council registered the Hawa project in its portfolio. The project adheres to the ACM0002 CDM methodology under the UNFCCC framework, tailored for grid-connected electricity generation from renewable sources. A total of 46,885 tCO2e were avoided in 2024.

HEALTH & SAFETY

The Hawa project achieved a top position in the Pakistan wind energy sector with a score of 95% in the 2023 Annual HSE performance evaluation by the Pakistan National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).
